Indications:
Wind heat obstructing the nasal passages and congealing the nasal fluids into phlegm heat. Presenting with nasal congestion, swollen and inflamed mucus membranes, watery or thick yellow or purulent and malodorous nasal mucus, sneezing, reduction or loss of sense of smell, nasal voice, sinus congestion and pain, frontal or sinus headache, dizziness, red itchy eyes, excessive tearing. Biomedical Applications:
allergic rhinitis, acute and chronic rhinitis, perennial rhinitis, acute and chronic sinusitis, post-nasal drip, upper respiratory tract infection, common cold, influenza
Standard Dosage:
3-4 tablets, 3 x day.
Clinical Dosage:
Administer half an hour before or one hour after eating. In severe cases or in the initial phases of treatment, dosage may be increased to 4-6 tablets every 2-4 hours, then reduced to a maintenance dose as the treatment takes effect. May be used medium-term for a few weeks to a few months. If administered alone for acute symptoms, it is usually taken up to a couple of weeks. Xanthium sibiricum fruit, Magnolia denudata flower, Forsythia suspensa fruit, Ledebouriella divaricata root, Angelica dahurica root, Anemarrhena asphodeloides rhizome, Glycyrrhiza uralensis root, Schizonepeta tenuifolia herb, Chrysanthemum indicum flower, Schisandra chinensis fruit, Platycodon grandiflorum root. - Chinese names: Cang er zi, Xin yi hua, Lian qiao, Fang feng, Bai zhi, Zhi mu, Gan cao, Jing jie, Ye ju hua, Wu wei zi, Jie geng.
Cautions & Contraindications:
Use with caution in Yin deficiency.
Cang er zi/xanthium is very drying, and excess use may result in dry mucus
membranes. Use with caution during pregnancy. Cang er zi/xanthium is also
slightly toxic and may occasionally cause a headache or mild nausea.
